Our naturopaths

Carmen Farrugia

Fertility & Pregnancy Naturopath, Midwife and Registered Nurse

Carmen Farrugia’s clinical work centres on supporting women and couples through every stage of the reproductive journey — preconception planning, natural fertility support, IVF assistance, pregnancy care and the postnatal period.

She also works extensively with menstrual disorders, PCOS, menopause, and the anxiety and low mood that so often accompany hormonal health challenges.

How she works

Her approach is deeply individual. Carmen takes the time to investigate the underlying factors contributing to your health concerns, considering your personal goals, circumstances and genetics before building a plan that draws on nutrition, herbal medicine, dietary planning, lifestyle medicine, pathology testing and stress management.

Beyond the clinic

Carmen is a respected educator and author. She has developed webinars for health practitioners on pre- and post-conception care, mentored graduate midwives and student naturopaths, and written a pregnancy eBook that is given to every one of her patients as part of their care.

Her contributions at the Royal Women’s Hospital include developing evidence-based antenatal guidelines, implementing triage processes for pregnant women, shaping team midwifery models and establishing mentoring programmes for graduate nurses.

Qualifications and registration

Carmen holds an Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy, a Bachelor of Applied Science in Nursing and a Graduate Diploma of Midwifery. She is a natural fertility lecturer, author and mentor, and an ANTA member (number 8255).

She also holds current AHPRA registration as a midwife (NMW0001034617) and as a Division 1 registered nurse (NMW0001034616).

⚠ Those registrations are for nursing and midwifery. Naturopathy is not an AHPRA-registered profession in Australia and there is no government register for it — so no naturopath, here or anywhere, is “AHPRA registered” for naturopathic practice. Carmen’s registrations are real, current and checkable on AHPRA’s public register; they are stated here as what they are.

Fertility, women’s health, endometriosis.

Can Carmen work alongside my IVF treatment?

Yes, and she does so regularly. Naturopathic care sits alongside medical fertility treatment rather than instead of it. Tell both Carmen and your fertility specialist what the other has recommended, particularly any supplement, because some interact with medication.

Is Carmen AHPRA registered?

Yes — as a midwife (NMW0001034617) and as a Division 1 registered nurse (NMW0001034616). Both are current and publicly verifiable. Those registrations are for nursing and midwifery; naturopathy has no register in Australia. Her naturopathic qualification is an Advanced Diploma, and she is an ANTA member, number 8255.

Do both partners need to attend?

Where you're trying as a couple, it's worth it. Conception outcomes depend on the health of both partners. There's a 90-minute couples fertility appointment for this.
